Chicken 65 | How to make Chicken 65

It is a dry south Indian style preparation where the chicken is first marinated and then deep fried to perfection later coated with a combination of green chillies and yoghurt ideal to be served as a side dish or with steamed rice and dal.

Prep time: 1 hour of marination

Cook time: 20 minutes

Total time: 1 hour and 30 minutes approx

Ingredients

  • 500 grams boneless chicken
  • 2 tablespoon yoghurt
  • 2 teaspoon red chilli powder or tikka masala powder
  • Pinch of orange-red food colour
  • 4 cups vegetable oil for deep frying

Ingredients for marinating chicken
  • 2 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon cornflour
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon each grated ginger and garlic
  • 2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vinegar
  • salt to taste

Ingredients for garnishing

  • curry leaves
  • 5-10 green chillies

Cooking Directions

  1. Cut chicken into bite size cubes.
  2. Combine all ingredients for marinating in a glass bowl, add chicken pieces and mix well. Set aside in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  3. Heat oil for deep frying and fry chicken pieces till done and keep aside.
  4. Heat some oil in a pan and add curry leaves and whole green chilies for few seconds. Remove from the pan.
  5. In the same pan add yoghurt mixed with Chicken Tikka Masala powder, salt and food colour. (add less salt as tikka masala already has salt in it)
  6. When yoghurt starts bubbling add chicken pieces to it and cook till yoghurt is dry and chicken is well coated.
  7. Turn off the heat and add fried curry leaves and green chillies.
  8. Serve hot as snacks or as a side dish.

    1. If you do not have tikka masala powder you can add just red chili powder . Tikka masala powder to be added to yogurt
