Aloo Chana Chaat (Chick pea & Potato Snack)



Ingredients:

  • 2 cups boiled and cubed potatoes
  • 2 cups boiled chick pea
  • 1 packet papdi 
  • 1 packet chaat vermicelli (or any bhujiya)
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 1 big tomato chopped
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1/2 cup chopped coriander
  • 2 cups sweetened and whisked yogurt
  • 1/2 cup tamarind chutney*
  • 1/2 cup green mint chutney*
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp roasted cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp chaat masala powder


Method:

  1. Spicy Chick Pea Masala:  In a bowl combine together boiled chick peas, onion, tomatoes, lemon juice, green chilies, cumin powder, red chili powder, salt and chaat masala powder. Mix well and set aside.
  2. Take a single serving plate and start assembling the chaat.
  • 1st  layer- of 5 crushed papdi.
  • 2nd layer- handful of boiled potatoes.
  • 3rd layer- 3 spoons of chick pea masala
  • 4th layer- 3 tbsp of sweetened yogurt.
  • 5th layer- drizzle 1 tbsp tamarind chutney.
  • 6th layer- drizzle 1 tbsp mint chutney
  • 7th layer- chopped coriander
  • Finally cover everything with chaat vermecelli.

Tamarind Chutney: 


  • Take a lemon sized piece of dry tamarind
  • Soak it in 1cup boiling water for 15 minutes. 
  • Squeeze out all the softened pulp into the water and bring the pulp to a boil. 
  • While its boiling add 4 tbsp crushed jaggery, 1 tsp roasted cumin powder, 1 tsp chili powder, 1/2 tsp black salt and 1/2 black pepper powder.
  • Bring to a boil and simmer on low heat for 5 minutes. Add water if needed.

For mint chutney: (grind together)

  • 1 tsp grated garlic
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Salt
  • 1 cup mint leaves
  • 1 cup green coriander
  • 1 slice of bread soaked in water
