Lentil Soup


Ingredients:

Cook together in pressure cooker for 20 minutes

  • 3/4 cup green gram daal (washed & soaked)
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 1 tbsp garlic sliced
  • 1 tbsp ginger chopped
  • 2 green chilies chopped
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp roasted cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1 vegetable stock cube (optional)
  • 5 cups of water
  • 1 small piece cinnamon stick
  • Salt to taste
For tempering:
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped garlic
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Pinch of garam masala powder
For garnishing:
  • 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
Method:
  1. Discard the cinnamon stick and puree the lentil mixture with a hand blender and set aside.
  2. Heat butter in a saucepan and fry garlic till it turns light brown in color and then add lentil puree to it.
  3. Add lemon juice and garam masala powder. Stir well and check the salt. Adjust accordingly if you need to add more lemon juice, salt etc. Bring to a boil and cook on slow flame for 5 minutes.
  4. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
Note;
If the soup becomes too watery then cook it on slow flame till it becomes thick. And if it becomes too thick then add more water and more spices accordingly.

  3. how many person can be served with those quantities of daal ?
