Gadbad (Ice cream dessert)

Most of the Mangaloreans will know about this one. There is an ice cream parlor in Mangalore 'The Ideal Ice Cream Parlour'. And gadbad is the main delicacy. Its really difficult or may be impossible to create any copycat recipe and taste. This is my quick and easy version for a dessert to be made at home.

Servings: 4 medium glasses


  • 1 cup of mixed toasted nuts (chopped almonds, cashew nut, pistachio)
  • 1/2 cup raisins toasted
  • 2 cups of prepared custard
  • 1 packet of strawberry jelly.
  • 1 can of mixed fruits
  • 1 chopped banana
  • 2 flavors of ice cream (vanilla, mango, strawberry)
  • 2 tablespoon strawberry syrup (or rooh afza)
  • Whipping cream in a piping bag


  1. Prepare the jelly according to the instruction on the box and set it in the fridge.
  2. Take 2 tall glasses and make a layer of mixed fruits, pour a layer of custard, some jelly cubes again a layer of fruits, a layer of 2 scoops of two different flavors of ice cream, whipping cream, strawberry sauce and sprinkle a generous amount of toasted nuts. 
  3. Serve chilled.
