Amritsari Machli | Batter Fried Fish




Ingredients:

500 gms boneless fish cubes (Hammour)

Marinade:

2 tbsp lemon juice
3 tsp chili powder (according to one's taste)
2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
1/4 tsp ajwain crushed (carom seeds)
1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
3 tbsp besan (chickpea flour) 
1 tbsp maida (plain flour)
Salt to taste
Few drops of orange-red color

Chat masala to sprinkle

3 cups oil for deep frying

Method:



  1. Wash the fish and pat dry on a kitchen towel.
  2. In a glass bowl combine all the ingredients of the marinade to make a smooth paste with a sticky texture.
  3. Use drops of water if required.
  4. Add fish pieces to it and mix well and set aside in a refrigerator for 30 min to 1 hr.
  5. Heat oil in a saucepan.
  6. Fry the pieces in batches till crispy and cooked. (10 min on each side).
  7. Drain on a kitchen towel. Sprinkle lemon juice and chaat masala and serve hot.

  1. I ALWAYS SAW THIS DISH ON TV IN WEDDING SHOWS , NEVER GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRY IT , TODAY I TRIED THIS AND REALLY LOVED THE FISH .... EVEN THE KIDS LOVED IT

    1. Oregano is more closer in flavor to ajwain.

  3. hi can i marinate this freeze nd then bake after a few days?

    1. Hajira I would suggest not to freeze marinated fish as it looses its freshness. Always marinate fish after defrosting it.
