Tawa Pulao | Mumbai Street Food ~ Tawa Pulao

Tawa Pulao is a famous street food, most popular dish in the pav bhaji stalls on Juhu Beach. Cooked rice is tempered with spices and vegetables on the same tava or griddle in which Pav bhaji is made.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 1 tsp grated garlic
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp pav bhaji masala
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp whole cumin
  • 1 cup cooked vegetables of your choice carrot, green peas, potato etc
  • ½ cup chopped coriander leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil / butter/ ghee

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a flat pan and add 1 tsp whole cumin seeds. Once it crackles, add 1 sliced onion, grated ginger, and grated garlic. Fry till soft and light in color.
  • Add 1 chopped tomato, 1 tsp red chili powder, and 1 tbsp pav bhaji masala. Saute on low flame till raw smell disappears. This will take 3 to 4 minutes. Add a few drops of water if needed.
  • Add cooked rice and vegetables and toss well with spices till well combined. Season with salt and lemon juice.
  • Cook for 1 minute on medium high heat and add chopped coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with Raita.
